A man is being held at Kilimani Police Station for impersonation and trespassing at the Embakasi Garrison.

The suspect, identified as Wellington Kimtai Kipyego, was arrested on Sunday and handed over to officers from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), who interrogated him before detaining him at the station.

It was not immediately clear whether Kimtai is a former military officer who had been dismissed from service. However, it is alleged that he had unrestricted access to military barracks in both Nairobi and Mombasa, where he reportedly spent several days with some officers.

Kimtai has reportedly been wearing military uniforms believed to have been acquired from a former soldier dismissed from service.

Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Patricia Yegon declined to comment, stating it would be inappropriate to release information at this stage. However, a source at the station said Kimtai was brought in under tight security on Monday.

“I understand that although he is being held here, the matter is being handled by ATPU officers. They might come for him tomorrow (Tuesday),” said the source.

Attempts to reach military spokesperson Brigadier Paul Njuguna were unsuccessful. Kimtai was reportedly found in possession of a fake military identification card.

ATPU officers are expected to investigate his motives further, amid reports that he works as a security guard for two influential civilians with strong ties to the military.
