ODM leader Raila Odinga's spouse Ida Odinga, and a section of Nyanza leaders have intensified the calls for the region to support the broad-based government.

Ida, who likened goodies from the broad-based government to a drizzling rain, asked Nyanza residents to seize the opportunity to get what they wanted.

“Right now, there is a drizzling rain in our country. Use it to plant. Use the drizzles wisely. Don’t wait for the heavy rains to come so that you can plant. Use this little rain to plant,” Ida said during a burial at Kanyamkago in Migori.

Her sentiments were echoed by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ and Migori MCAs who also slammed Siaya Governor James Orengo over his remarks on Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s collaboration with President William Ruto.

Orengo has been critical of the broad-based government and believes the failure to checkmate President William Ruto's administration could be disastrous for the country.

According to Orengo, getting things from the government was a right and not a favour.

Senator Kajwang’ said that the former Prime Minister has never been a sycophant but a loyal statesman patriarch.

“There is a distinction between loyalty and sycophancy. Loyalty is a virtue, while sycophancy is a vice. We take our lessons from Raila Odinga. He has set aside his personal interests for the good of the nation,” Kajwang’ stated.

South Kanyamkago MCA Graham Kagali and Got Kachola ward MCA Calvince Ocholla termed Orengo’s remarks as unfortunate, saying that Raila has always stood with Kenyans at their hour of need.

He said that the projects were not based on Raila’s benefit or the people of Nyanza alone.

“Coalitions and working together have been the best,” Mr. Kagali remarked.

Ocholla said the broad-based government brought unity and fair distribution of resources in the country.
